Visa policy of Nepal
Tourist visas are all “multiple entries”. They, therefore, make it possible to leave Nepalese territory to re-enter it, as many times as desired, during the same stay.
The initial visa can be up to 90 days. Then, it is possible to extend for 2 months at the immigration office in Kathmandu (or Pokhara).
It is possible to stay 5 months a year as a tourist in Nepal.
By combining a stay over 2 years, we can, therefore, stay 10 months in Nepal with a tourist visa.
For information: the tourist visa does not allow you to work, even on a voluntary basis.
Note: in the case of a combined India-Nepal trip, it should be noted that Indian law prohibits entering India, or Nepal from India, with Indian rupees. Violators face sanctions.
The passport must be valid 6 months after the return date, for French, Belgian and Swiss nationals.
Also make sure you have the number of blank pages required or sufficient: usually 3, 2 of which are opposite.
We suggest you have a photo of all your documents, passport and identity card in an email box that can be viewed from the internet, not just on your mobile phone. In case of loss of all your documents and/or smartphone, you can always print a copy from an internet cafe or at the ashram.
If you are traveling with your child, minors must have an individual passport. French law stipulates that minors traveling with their two parents, or only one of the two, do not need to be in possession of an exit permit. However, this document is mandatory (since January 15, 2017) if this accompanying condition is not met. In the latter case, the child must present: the passport, the authorization form for leaving the territory, signed by one of the parents holding parental authority – form accessible on the site www.service-public.fr – and a photocopy of the identity document of the signatory parent.
When a minor travels with one of his parents whose name he does not bear, it is strongly advised either to be able to prove parentage or to present an authorization to leave the territory duly completed and signed by the other parent with a copy of his ID.
Obtaining a Visa
The easiest way is to pay for your visa as soon as you land at Kathmandu airport … by making your request beforehand via the internet.
Within the preceding 14 days your entry into Nepal – NOT BEFORE, complete the online form at the following address:
Please note: it is necessary to have an identity photo on your computer (in .jpg) to download before validating your visa application online. To do this, click on the gray photo on the form.
PRINT your request (with the bar code that appears after validation).
When you arrive at the airport, go to the counter to pay for your visa.
The cost is fixed in US dollars, but it can also be paid in euros at the daily exchange rate.
It is also possible to apply for a visa directly on arrival at Kathmandu Airport. It is a counter preceding that of payment. If you arrive at a time without too many tourists, this is perfect. If, at the same time as you arrive a whole plane of tourists who have not made their request in advance, you can count 30 to 90 minutes of the additional queue before leaving. To make this request when the plane arrives, bring a photo ID.
Please note: there is a small form to complete before going through customs. It is available everywhere in the arrival hall if you did not receive it on the plane.
1 to 15 days, multi-entry: US $ 30 or equivalent in euros
16 to 30 days multi-entry: US $ 50 or equivalent in euros
From 31 to 90 days multi-entry: US $ 125 or equivalent in euros
Visa is free for children under 10
